Meet Ng Cai Jun
Math Mentor
The Evolution
Cai Jun’s journey fuses the analytical rigor of Economics with the precision of Applied Mathematics. Graduating with highest distinction from SMU, he recognized that true mastery—whether in H2 Mathematics or Economics—isn’t just about memorizing formulas, but about solving real-world puzzles. From optimizing national transport infrastructure to building predictive models, he has evolved from a researcher to a mentor who helps students see Math not as a set of abstract rules, but as the underlying logic of the real world.
“Mathematics is often taught as ‘blind steps’ to follow. But to me, it is about seeing the pattern. I want students to stop looking at a difficult calculus problem as a hurdle, and start seeing it as a system they can engineer.”
From Syntax to Solution
Ng Cai Jun
Cai Jun believes that the best way to learn is to understand the mechanism behind the method. He moves students beyond rote memorization into “Structural Thinking,” using his background to demystify the complex Probability and Calculus topics found in the A-Level syllabus. By grounding abstract concepts in tangible logic, he ensures students understand why the formula works—so they don’t just memorize the solution, they can reconstruct it.
“I have always been fascinated by how data tells a story. When a student understands why an algorithm works, they don’t need to memorize the code—they can create it.”
