“Cultivating the right mindset is crucial for learning well.”

— Cynthia Su

Dismantling the Fear of Imperfection

Many students become entirely paralysed by the fear of making a grammatical error, leading to silent classrooms and blank composition pages. My primary objective is to shift this restrictive mindset.

Drawing upon my background in holistic coaching, I prioritise emotional safety before academic execution. I help my students overcome their fear of being imperfect. Cultivating the right psychological mindset is the absolute precursor to learning well. True academic confidence is not about flawless execution from day one — it is about having the resilience to try, knowing that mistakes are simply the necessary data for mastery.

The Methodology

1

My Teaching Philosophy

The question I always ask myself when teaching is, “Is this relevant to my student? If not, how do I make it relevant?” I believe we learn better when the content means something to us and adds value to our lives.

Instead of seeking perfection in English, I help my students overcome their fear of being imperfect. Cultivating the right mindset is crucial for learning well. Having the courage to try, even when you know you may fail, is one of the most powerful ways to build lasting confidence!

2

Beyond Teaching

I love the performing arts and have an active interest in dancing, acting, and singing (and even play the ukulele!). I have taken acting classes and once performed in front of a paying audience in Tokyo! I often bring my daughter to the theatre, as well as various cultural and music performances.

I also have a passion for learning languages and exploring different cultures. I am familiar with the Japanese language and culture, so if you’re a fan of Japan, let’s talk!

3

Why Students Enjoy My Lessons

I take pride in creating a relaxed atmosphere where students can express themselves without fear or anxiety. My lessons are consistently interactive, giving my students ample opportunity to talk and share their thoughts freely. I also break down complex grammar points into clear, relatable concepts that my students can grasp easily.
